BNS: UniCredit set to kick off business in Lithuania in Sept

BNS

UniCredit, one of the largest banks in Eastern and Central Europe, gears up to launch business in Lithuania from September, the Verslo Zinios business daily reports.
The unit of the bank will offer financing for business and real estate projects in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian unit of UniCredit Bank will launch business on Sept. 1 via the takeover of liabilities of the Vilnius unit of Bayerische Hypo- und Vereins-bank.

The key priority of the bank in Lithuania would be corporate banking, said Rimantas Busila, CEO of UniCredit Bank Lithuanian unit, which has been established by UniCredit group for the financing of business in the Baltic countries.

The bank was also interested in the creation of national investment company that would participate in the new nuclear power plant project, Busila noted. UniCredit Bank had a history of taking part in similar projects, and it could join this project as a financial partner or an adviser, or both, he added.

As reported earlier, Allied Irish Banks, the largest Irish bank, is also stepping into Lithuania's banking market via the purchase of mortgage company AmCredit.
